The Commission Scolaire de Montréal (CDSM) is an elected public institution. It offers educational services to preschools, primary and secondary schools, specialized schools for students with handicaps, social maladjustments or learning difficulties (EHDAA), and vocational training centres.

Technical Programs
COMPUTER SUPPORT | DEP| 1800 hours

Develop the skills needed to succeed in business including problem solving, information retention and time management. Students will also learn how to use software and harness the capabilities of aging technologies and advanced technology operating systems, leveraging application software capabilities, creating and operating a database, exploit the possibilities of telecommunication means. Develop skills related to workplace communication and customer service such as: interacting in various professional situations, communicating in English, providing information customer support from a call center. Finally, develop the skills needed to perform tasks on standalone or networked computer workstations: analyze the architecture and operation of computer systems, develop a utility program, install the physical and logical elements of a computer station, manage the access to the resources of a network, put in place the shareable resources of a network, restore the functioning of a computer station, optimize the performance of a computer station.

MECHANICS OF CONSTRUCTION MACHINERY | DEP| 1800 hours

The mechanics of construction machinery program is designed to train students to be able to carry out preventive and corrective mechanical work, to check construction equipment in order to identify problems of operation, to investigate the cause and locate the source, perform repairs, replacements and adjustments, and perform operational tests.

MECHANICS OF LIGHT MACHINERY | DEP| 1800 hours

Gain the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to check, repair and adjust all parts of two- and four-stroke engines on lawnmowers, snowmobiles, snowblowers, chainsaws, garden tractors, all-terrain vehicles, motorcycles, outboard motors, golf carts, etc., check and repair ignition systems, various parts of the fuel system, lubrication and cooling systems, provide service and the maintenance of light vehicles.

MECHANICS OF HEAVY ROAD VEHICLES | DEP | 1800 hours

The mechanics program for heavy-duty road vehicles is designed to qualify students to practice the profession of mechanic and mechanic of heavy road vehicles. Apprenticeships are carried out in the workshop on mechanical and electrical components, as well as on conventional and ordered systems of heavy road vehicles.

TINSMITH AND SHEET METAL WORK | DEP | 1800 hours

The Ferblanterie vocational training program prepares students to become tinsmiths. In the performance of their duties, tinsmiths cut, shape, assemble and weld various types of tinplate products. They install prefabricated metal objects, wall cladding, ancestral sheets and modern roofing, as well as air handling, recovery and disposal systems.

The programme involves a lot of team work, in accordance with plans, specifications and standards in force. When performing their duties, tinsmiths use bench tooling and access, lifting, handling, cutting, shaping and welding equipment. They also use measuring and tracing tools to draw sketches and patterns of pieces.

The person practicing the trade must have good manual dexterity and good physical stamina. He or she must be able to work at height. Compliance with health and safety rules and measures is an integral part of the job.

WELDING ASSEMBLY | DEP | 1800 hours

To acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to carry out preparatory welding-assembly work, to carry out assembly and welding projects for basic elements, structural elements, industrial assembly projects and metal structures with different welding processes, read industrial plans and interpret specifications as well as welding procedures.

MACHINING TECHNIQUES | DEP | 1800 hours

SURVEYING AND TOPOGRAPHY | DEP | 1800 hours

Health Care Programs
HEALTH ASSISTANCE AND NURSING | DEP | 1800 hours

To acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to differentiate the concepts of health and illness; acquire the knowledge and flexibility to understand and apply the techniques taught, establish an effective support relationship with people with health needs, participate in team life as the modern day care organization to communicate effectively with people with health needs and their families, with their superiors and with other members of the health care team.

Beauty Care Programs
AESTHETICS | DEP | 1305 hours

The Aesthetic vocational program aims to train beauticians and beauticians.

In the performance of their duties, beauticians and aestheticians provide aesthetic care to different clienteles, using techniques that require the use of specialized products and devices, in order to improve and maintain the appearance of the person, while providing physical and psychological well-being.

Before carrying out the care, he or she carries out a collection of information from the client. He or she conducts an examination of the skin, nails and hair, as appropriate.

The beautician or beautician performs basic or specific beauty treatments on the face, neck, décolleté, back, hands and feet. He or she carries out a makeup according to the occasion and carries out the hair removal of different areas of the body using specialized products.

SECRETARY | DVS | 1485 hours

This curriculum prepares a student for the secretary profression. In the performance of their duties, the secretaries perform the day-to-day work and autonomously carry out administrative tasks to assist managers and professionals. Their responsibilities vary according to the type and size of the company. They are resource persons in their workplace and act as liaisons between the different departments of the company.

Secretarial tasks include entering text and data into the computer, writing documents and designing presentations, tables, graphs and sample documents, with or without indications. In addition, secretaries can edit and format documents and translate texts. They may correct the texts, layout, link and distribute the documents. The secretarial staff must also ensure the quality of the documents produced, at all times, by checking the spelling, the syntax and the application of the grammatical rules.

They are also called upon to carry out general secretarial tasks which are covered in the program leading to a DVS (Diploma of Vocational Studies) in Secretarial Studies.

Most legal secretaries work for law firms or notaries, while others work for the legal departments of large companies, for municipalities, for the federal or provincial government or for trustees or bailiffs.

Legal secretaries must be very productive and able to work under pressure, given the importance of time limits and the urgency of certain files. As legal secretaries are often in contact with clients, they must be very good at communicating and establishing interpersonal relationships. As assistants, they are required to observe professional ethics, especially in their general conduct and regarding confidentiality.

The AVS program, Secretarial Studies-Legal, helps students develop the skills required to exercise the occupation and to master the competencies needed in the workplace in a legal environment. This training takes into account all the competencies included in the DVS in Secretarial Studies.

MEDICAL SECRETARY | AVS | 450 hours

To develop the skills necessary for the transcription and production of medical documents containing general terms of human biology, using general medical terminology and that relating to cellular activity, human body functions, movement and nervous system, and produce medical documents. Develop the skills needed to communicate and interact in the workplace. Develop the necessary skills to welcome users and prepare and update their files. Develop the skills needed to manage medical supplies and accounting transactions related to medical procedures.

Design Programs
JEWELRY | DEP | 1800 hours

To acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to design, make and repair different jewelry using techniques such as welding and brazing, mold making and crimping. Also learn to evaluate jewelry, make tools and sales techniques.

INDUSTRIAL DESIGN | DEP | 1800 hours
