BUSINESS - ACCOUNTING | College Diploma | 2 Years

Accounting plays a vital role in the business world and is in demand in every segment of the Canadian and global economy. The Business – Accounting two-year program provides students with a solid background in accounting and bookkeeping from a broad business perspective. Graduates of this program are proficient in various accounting, income tax, and spreadsheet software packages. Graduates of this program are prepared for entry level positions as accounting clerks, bookkeepers or accounting trainees. The positions are generally in small and medium sized businesses, the not-for-profit sector or government offices.

Program Highlights:

· In-depth curriculum of accounting theory and practical applications in the areas of financial accounting, cost accounting, taxation, financial management and information systems.

· Broad-based business skills including marketing, human resource administration, business communications, and economics.

· Knowledgeable professors with solid industry experience giving students first-hand insight into the field.

· Up-to-date computer labs using the latest accounting software.

· Seamless transition to the three-year accounting program.

· Transfer opportunities with several Canadian universities.

· Courses may be accepted as prerequisites and/or technical course exemptions towards the Advanced Certificate in Accounting & Finance (ACAF).

BUSINESS - MARKETING | College Diploma | 2 Years

For students interested in a career in promotion and sales, marketing is the stream to pursue. The graduate of Business – Marketing will possess the presentation skills necessary to promote and sell products or services. Graduates will gain knowledge of the new technology being utilized in marketing and will learn the intricacies of marketing research. Graduates will be prepared to work in retail sales. This program will appeal to students who are outgoing and self-confident with a strong interest in business and sales. To succeed students must be self-motivated and able to interact well with others.

Program Highlights:

· Field work includes marketing research projects in the community allowing for hands-on experiential learning and networking opportunities with possible future employers.

· Become proficient in current software programs used for social media.

· Curriculum is consistently updated to keep up with current trends and techniques in the dynamic and ever-changing field of marketing.

· Marketing Design Technologies teaches students how to build organizational websites.

· Program and Event planning course provides students with the opportunity to learn various aspects of staging and marketing events, by developing and launching a promotional event.

· Students will gain an understanding via simulation labs and business applications in banking, merchandising, consumer finance, and payroll.

HUMAN RESOURCES | College Advanced Diploma | 3 Years

This program prepares students for careers in the Human Resources Departments in both business and government sectors. Human Resources is a highly dynamic field and graduates are prepared to handle recruiting, payroll and benefits. They can also assist in the areas of labour relations and health and safety concerns. This program also prepares students for general management roles in all sectors of industry. This program will appeal to students who have good interpersonal skills and a solid understanding of business. Students must also be comfortable with the confidentiality needed in the field to conduct themselves in a professional manner.

Program Highlights:

· Work placement in a human resources department in the third year of the program, allowing 14 weeks (80 hours) in a Human Resources setting.

· Professional preparation for ensuring policies, programs and procedures are in place for a business or company’s personnel and that it is aligned with their overall strategy for success.

· Preparation for Certified Human Resources Professional designation (CHRP) governed by the Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario.

· Opportunity for qualifying graduates to complete a B. Comm. from Nipissing University on the St. Clair College campus.


The Community and Justice Services program is designed to prepare students for careers in the field of criminal justice with attention to intervention and re-integration. The nature of these environments and the diversity of clients demand a highly trained work force able to intervene effectively using best practices, in order to ensure the protection of the public, and the safety of the community, staff, and clients.

Program Highlights:

· Taught by experts currently in the field, the curriculum prepares students for a wide variety of careers related to institutional and community based corrections and for other areas of law enforcement.

· In addition to specialized courses involving both theory and practical hands-on learning, the CJS program provides students with the opportunity to obtain invaluable real-life experience through a 320 hour work placement in corrections or in one of many other agencies and/or community programs relating to law enforcement and criminal justice.

· The program also prepares students to meet with success for the FITCO fitness testing required by the Ministry of Corrections.

EVENT MANAGEMENT | Ontario College Graduate Certificate | 1 Year

This new program will provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to plan, organize, coordinate, implement and promote special events for the public, corporate and non-profit sectors. Graduates will be able to develop and implement financial initiatives, coordinate effective venue management and apply the principles of marketing strategies, effective human resource management, business administration skills, and the principles of professionalism and ethics. The ever growing industry of events is being used to stimulate economies, increase tourism, develop community awareness, foster public involvement, improve quality of life, generate revenue and market products.

The event industry is a rapidly growing segment of virtually every sector of society. Events are part of public, not-for-profit, charitable, private, and corporate sectors. Employment opportunities may be found at tourism associations, trade and professional associations, convention and conference centres, governments and at conference and event planning companies.

GRAPHIC DESIGN | Advanced Diploma | 3 Years

The Computer Support and Networking program is designed to ready you for a career in the field of Information Technology. Our graduates work as computer support specialists, network support specialists, and network administrators.

Our program goes beyond basic MELS requirements. We are a Microsoft Academy and you will have acquired specific knowledge in Cisco, Comptia A+, Linux+ and Network+ upon completion of the program. Our skilled teachers have a broad range of experience and provide you with guided instruction in our state of the art classrooms equipped with the latest hardware and software. Theoretical learning is complemented by our placement program which will enable you to apply your skills in a real world industry setting prior to graduation.

HOSPITALITY - HOTEL & RESTAURANT | College Diploma | 2 Years

This program will prepare graduates for leadership positions in the growing hospitality industry in venues that include hotels, resorts, restaurants, bars, catering and conference centres, and in additional industries such as sporting arenas, recreational facilities, and independent and assisted living facilities. The hospitality student will develop and practice the skills for success in lodging operations, food and beverage operations, and the growth areas of recreational foodservice and wineries. These transferrable skills include guest relations, marketing, financial management, human resources, and event planning.

Ontario’s hospitality industry is expanding and so are job opportunities in the accommodations and food service sectors. Areas such as: front desk, housekeeping, catering, bartending, restaurant/resort/club services, sales and marketing, guest services, convention/conference services, and hotel restaurant management are just some of the opportunities that await our graduates. Our students enjoy an almost 100 percent hire success rate upon graduation. Student work and earn programs are available through recruitment visits by Fairmont Resorts & Hotels, through the Disney College Program, and internally by the St. Clair College Centre for the Arts.

Program Highlights

· Students have the opportunity to gain valuable experience and school credits while living, working, and attending classes at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

· Accelerated pathways to degree programs in Canada, Australia, and Ireland.

· Paid employment opportunities in Fairmont resort properties in Western Canada.

· Students learn and practice food preparation and service in Eatery 101, our student-operated on-campus restaurant serving lunch and dinner.

· The campus houses a full convention centre and is adjacent to a major chain hotel.

· Students will visit local wineries, distilleries, breweries, hotels, restaurants, recreational venues, and casinos.

· Students plan and host the College’s annual food and wine gala.

· Work experience is available at our industry partners’ workplaces or through on-site student “work integrated learning” programs.

JOURNALISM | College Diploma | 2 Years

Students will experience actual “on-deadline” news filing, be expected to adapt their story for multiple media deliveries and to back up their stories with photography, audio or video. Much of the course work is “in field,” and as such, students must be strong self-starters and motivated to seek out, interview and write stories on a frequent basis. Successful applicants will have a very strong interest in news and current affairs. They must have above average writing skills and the ability to meet deadlines while working under pressure. The opportunities for budding journalists are expanding significantly in traditional news reporting and photojournalism for print, radio and television. The web has opened new avenues for internet/digital news provider/ researcher, web site designer and convergence media professionals (providing stories to all media).

Program Highlights

· Two media work placements.

· The MediaPlex is the only one of its kind in Canada and is equipped with state-of-the-art technology.

· “Convergence” journalism is taught exclusively at this campus, providing students with employable skills for the newsrooms of the 21st century.

· Students learn how to work across all media platforms including digital/on-line, print, television and radio.

· The curriculum will provide students with cutting edge knowledge and skills making them highly marketable across all media platforms.

· Journalism students get to run The MediaPlex Website bringing you breaking news and current affairs from Windsor, across Canada and around the world, as it affects people in our communities.

PUBLIC RELATIONS | College Diploma | 2 Years

Public relations is a dynamic and exciting field. Public relations specialists are expert communicators who manage and maintain a positive public image for their clients, whether it’s a politician, a large corporation, a non-profit organization or a small business. This program prepares students to competently enter the professional world of public relations with knowledge and skills that include writing for newspapers, feature articles, and preparing public and private presentations. Students will also learn how to shoot and edit professional photos, develop internal and external corporate communications plans, event plans, sponsorship plans, and learn how to handle crisis response. Social media, entrepreneurship, marketing, advertising and working with media are also elements of this in-depth program.

Program Highlights

· Learn in a state-of-the-art multimedia multiplex (called the MediaPlex) that is one of only three in the world.

· Professional equipment includes: radio booths, video editing bays, green screen technology and various visual design software programs.

· Hands-on learning includes: Event production, small business creation, creating professional videos using industry-standard professional equipment, recording radio interviews, composing and editing professional photos and using design software to create marketing materials such as flyers and posters and much more.

· Two work placement opportunities, which give students the chance to put their PR skills to use in the real world. Numerous opportunities exist locally and out of town for work placement as well as employment in a wide variety of business, industry, institutional and non-profit organizations.

TOURISM | College Diploma | 2 Years

If you are interested in a career as an airline/tour reservationist, flight attendant, cruise ship employee, tour guide, tour manager, event planner, travel counselor, hotel/ resort concierge, or any other facet of the tourism industry, this program is for you! This program will help develop skills employers are looking for in a new employee, such as communication, teamwork, computer, and customer service skills. Graduates are prepared to begin entry level positions in a number of the travel industry sectors. Tourism is one of the largest economic generators worldwide; employment opportunities are endless. Whether you are changing careers or looking for a new job, tourism and travel will offer you a world of possibilities. After completing the two year program, graduate job opportunities exist with airlines, airports, attractions, car rental companies, convention and meeting centres, cruise lines, government tourism offices, hotels and resorts, on-line travel providers, rail lines, travel agencies, tour operators and visitor information centres, among others. Tourism and Travel students can work and earn credits through the Disney College Program and the Fairmont Hotels and Resorts Student Work Experience Program.

Program Highlights

· Students have the opportunity to gain valuable experience and school credits while living, working, and attending classes at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

· Graduates have the opportunity to obtain a Bachelor of Arts in Travel and Tourism Management in Ireland by completing 2 semesters abroad.

· Optional yearly field trip abroad (past trips include Mexico, Caribbean, Cruises, Europe).

· Previous mid-semester work placement locations have included Western and Eastern Canada, Europe, Thailand, South Africa, Costa Rica, Australia, and India, among others.

· Student Work Experience Program recruitment opportunities exist with Fairmont Hotels and Resorts located in Western Canada.

· Tourism Photography gives students the opportunity to create travel brochures using their own photographs.

· TICO exam administered as part of the program.

  • Be at least 18 years old
