Bouchereau Lingua International (BLI) is committed to taking all reasonable steps to ensure students have the opportunity to successfully complete their programs. Within this general framework, all students are treated fairly and equitably. Students who do not support the academic and ethical goals of BLI for themselves and their fellow students may be subject to penalties, up to and including expulsion. In general, BLI will attempt to resolve a situation without expulsion. Verbal warnings, written warnings and suspension may precede this final and most serious of actions. When BLI deems the integrity, safety or well-being of its students, staff, clients or other visitors is in danger, then expulsion may be warranted at the school’s discretion at any point in the process.

Academic Dishonesty

Any word, action or deed performed alone, or with others for the direct or indirect intention of  providing an unfair advantage or benefit to self or other student(s) including:

• cheating/ plagiarism
• unapproved collaboration
• alteration of records
• bribery
• dishonesty/misrepresentations

Outstanding Fees

Failure to pay overdue accounts owing to BLI within the specified period may be grounds for expulsion after a written warning has been given.

Drugs and alcohol

BLI policy concerning drugs and alcohol:

Consumption of drugs and alcohol are forbidden on school property.

Cannabis consumption is not allowed on school property, at school events, activities or trips and excursions by anyone, neither staff nor students.

Any underage/minor student who possesses, uses, sells, or distributes legal (e.g. marijuana, prescription medication, etc. ) or illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia, alcohol or tobacco at any time while on school property, or under the authority of the school, is subject to the most serious disciplinary action, including suspension or expulsion.

The school’s policies on drugs and alcohol also apply to all student trips and activities. The school reserves the right to search any student belongings if that student is suspected of having drugs or illegal substances or items in the school, on trips and activities. Students believed to be under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol face serious consequences including suspension or expulsion.

Violation of Code of Conduct

All students are required to adhere to BLI’s code of conduct. Even when the violations do not have the potential to result in physical harm to persons or property, BLI may expel a student  who has received suspension for failure to comply and has since violated any of the terms of BLI’s code of conduct.

Harassment or discrimination

BLI does not condone harassment or discrimination of any student, staff member, client or visitors to the school. Students participating in harassing or discriminatory activities that are racial, sexual, or pertaining to sexual orientation in nature may be subject to immediate suspension depending on the severity of the activity and pending investigation. Any student who is deemed by the investigation to have engaged in severe harassing or discriminatory activities may be expelled at the discretion of the school, depending on the severity of the activity. In determining what constitutes harassment or discrimination, BLI refers to The Quebec Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms.

Misuse of Property

Students who damage, steal or otherwise misuse the school property may be expelled and required to make restitution.

Endangerment of Staff or Students

BLI is committed to the right of all school staff, students, clients and visitors to be safe. Students who by action or neglect in any way endanger the safety of themselves or others may be expelled.

Notification:

Students who are subject to expulsion for any reason will be notified in writing, either by email,  a hand delivered letter or by registered mail. BLI is not responsible for non‐delivery by registered mail if the student has not provided a valid residential address. The notification will contain a description of the basis for expulsion and the effective date. Expelled students who dispute the facts of the expulsion must appeal the decision within three days of the notification following the complaints procedure of BLI provided to the student and providing sufficient proof to support the complaint. Students who file an appeal and are unsuccessful are considered withdrawn from BLI.

Settlement of an Expelled Student’s Fees

Settlement of student’s accounts, for students that have been expelled, will be completed under the School’s Fee Refund Policy, using the effective date of expulsion as the final day of attendance in their program of study.

Return of Property

A student who is expelled is responsible for the return of any school property in his/her own possession within 10 days of the expulsion and will be held financially responsible for any property not returned in good condition.
